This blog is LONG overdue! We have been busy in the Greenhouses growing all of our wonderful hanging baskets and getting our fresh veggies planted in the garden!!
All of this rain has most of us singing the blues but there is always one thing that makes me finally feel like summer is on it’s way, Hanging Baskets!! I love pulling up to my house and seeing how much my baskets have grown that day or what beautiful flowers have started to bloom! One of the greatest things about our Large Hanging Baskets is that they always make a statement. My neighbors going on walks often ask me where I got them!
Mother’s Day weekend is always a busy one for us, but we still have lots of unique combinations ready for you! One thing that is different about our hanging baskets is that we plant each and every one of them by hand! So when you come to pick out your baskets you have a chance to ask your questions directly to the grower! Don’t forget to pick-up some fertilizer to keep them looking great through the whole season. We suggest Jack’s Classic 20-20-20 and have found that it continues to feed the plants along with the blossoms all season long!!
With all this rain it has been hard to find the time to plant my veggie gardens! If you are in the same boat and still need some edibles to plant stop by we have a table filled with them! We have also had a hard time getting in all of our veggies planted for our summer season of produce and even made some beds inside the greenhouses this year to speed up Mother Nature! One program that we offer and still have room in is our Community Supported Agriculture Program, also known as a CSA! You sign-up and get veggies and fruits for 18 weeks from June to the end of September! We also have an added bonus for our members with free admission to our Strawberry Festival and a U-pick bonus of Strawberries! Something we tried new this year is a Dinner Series, called Grilling in the Garden! Our first dinner is next week Thursday, May 19th and starts at 6pm. Dinner costs $30 per person and spots are still available call 503-633-8445 to reserve your spot now! Dinner menu consists of:
• Fresh Green Salad made with freshly harvested greens topped withroasted beets, crumbled goat cheese, & a creamy poppy dressing.
• Grilled Stuffed Pork Chops loaded with local goat cheese & a pestofilling covered in an apple glaze with a side of grilled local asparagus & locally made fresh pasta in a fresh basil & spinach pesto. The entree features farm fresh pork grown on our farm.
• Apple Crisp featuring Fuji Apples from the late autumn harvest at French Prairie Gardens.
